Bottom 3 Prediction: Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud
Elimination Prediction: Allison (with a heavy heart)
Actual Bottom 3: Kris Allen, Matt Giraud, Adam Lambert
Actual Elimination: Matt Timberfake with a fake gracious Adam hugging (and kissing) him away.
Question 1: Adam's close call - wasn't it just a matter of inevitability he would see the Bottom 3 at least once?
Answer1: Adam, more that any other contestants in years is getting wide national mention. It was seeming like that this was only a forgone conclusion of his eventual victory. But, funny things happen on the road to destiny, right? You wear a bad outfit; you don't have your best singing voice for a crucial night; and, most importantly, a competing backlash-against-hollywood movement grows and becomes loud (and/or stealthy). Now, this could form as a rallying of other contestants' base to defeat Adam or just plain Adam-haters using another contestant as their "stop-Adam" vesell (my choice would be Allison, but it is a true-crap shoot to predict this scenario). Anyways, just as Allison base rallied to her this week, after her repeated close call last week, i will anticipate cell towers in West Hollywood and NYC's theatre district will get some extra work this Tuesday night. One more thing: didn't Adam just looked like he LOVED being in this position of the Bottom 2? Loving every minute of drama that he strives to create.
Q2: Was anyone else just as impreessed by the Group medley ("I've Got Rhythm/Don't Mean a Thing)?
A2: Not that I usually watched this fluff (thank goodnees, again, for DVR technology), but i held-up forwarding and found little (if any) moment to be cringeworthy. Maybe the best they have ever done. Good job, Top 5 (even you, Phoney Adam).
Q3: With Simon trick of manipulating complacent Allison voters to the "booth", can she keep them active enough to the finale?
A3: I hate to be generic, but is now solely about song choices for her. Next week is pivotal since Ryan Seacrest already announced that we will have a "Rock-n-Roll" theme, which is seemingly right down her alley. If she stumbles with a wrong song choice, Simon will not kind. If she nails both songs (i think this is the week the performers sings two songs), everyone else will be trouble because the rest of the guys are the splitting the remaining votes.
Q4: Did Matt deserve to go?
A4: Yes, but that still doesn't mean it was an easy call. He has shown moments of talent. It's just he hasn't figured out himself to consistently go his own path. I will contend that, if Matt had sang a song this week where he smoothly paid the piano, he would not be going home. Thems the breaks.
One final thing: Jamie Foxx, Blame It - I do not care where it is ranked on the Billboard charts, but i am definitely slipping it into my mental category of worst mainstream songs I have ever heard. Yes, i'm old, but so are you, Jamie! You never want to be that pathetic older guy working the dance floor to show young you are in spirit. People just laugh at you. Believe me, I know.
Oh, Danny, I am sure you were watching your personal idol Taylor Hicks very closely. And, i fully expect you to pull the harmonica solo next or the following week.
Get ready for Rock-n-Roll Week (confirmed). This could be a REALLY good because these four can be very, very interesting.
Bring on your thoughts!
Let me know what you think.

I did it again - I changed the channel every time something annoyed me. So... I saw the start of the group video and changed the channel. I turned it back on to see the group performance - and changed the channel. I turned it back on to see Taylor Hicks - and changed the channel. I turned it back on to see Jamie Foxx and changed the channel.....
ReplyDeleteFinally (!) I turned it back on to see Adam and Matt in the bottom two - and I left it on. Yes, that's right, I watched about 5 minutes total of the show.
I was glad Adam didn't go home because he is interesting and most of the others aren't. It isn't about vocal talent for me - I mean, I wouldn't want someone who sang like cr@p but music producers can make any mediocre voice sound great and the odds of me buying an AI alumn CD is pretty low in general - so give me someone interesting. Seeing vocally talented, but totally bland, Taylor Hicks last night confirmed this feeling for me. Adam is interesting so I want him to win. I'm still too blase about this group of contestants to actually vote though..
Unpatriotically yours,
CSC
PS - TMC - did I have drinks with you on Tuesday?? :)
Well, it was indeed "Bye Bye Bye" for Matt. I hate them for teasing me first, though. I have a very bad feeling that this was the last chance for Adam to go down. (Obviously, that comment refers ONLY to his AI prospects.) His voting base got complacent, and he almost paid the price for his self adoration. Alas, it was not to be.
ReplyDeleteThe most surprising thing about Natalie Cole (before I hit fastforward) was that she isn't fat or incredibly plastic. How did Paula's camp let that one slip by?
I swore during Taylor's performance (again, before fastforwarding) that it was a cover of something I'd heard. PIC was convinced it was his new single. Obviously, PIC was right. Which is why country music sucks.
Ummm...so, Jamie. Lots of people were impressed at how well you played "Ray". No one is impressed by how you play "Kanye". If you're going to rip of someone's act, right down to the oversized white sunglasses and synthesizer mic, make sure people actually like the guy you're copying. I'm not sure what the name for the first derivative of crap is, but we saw what it looks like last night. Even your closing man-twirl (you know you were on national TV, right?) couldn't save it. At least you grew hair over your giant head tattoo.
We've had Quentin and Jamie so far. Who gets to "mentor" Rock Week? Billy Crudup, since he was good in "Almost Famous"?
As always, thanks to PIC, since our discussions always heavily color TMC's weekly musings.
-TMC
hi everyone...
ReplyDeleteI've let TMC do all the writing up till now... but i just wanted to drop a quick note....
AI's goal is to produce successful artists, which usually are the most "current"...I.E. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks vs. Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks. So, the way i see it, that's what people should vote for, the most current (the one you'll listen to on the radio). Face it, Adam is a Broadway singer. You've all described him as theatrical (including the AI judges).. so he should "mooo" away on broadway.... He can go sing Kinickies part in Grease next to Taylor Hicks... their best chance is with Allison or Kris.
CSC, what good is knowing where TMC was at any given point in time? Verbal Kint sat in Agen Kujan's office all kday, and they never caught Keyser Sose.
-PIC
PIC - part of the appeal of TMC (in addition to the snarky well written posts) is the idea that I could be hanging out with him/her and not know it. :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously???? First off, take away the Bitter from me because TMC and PIC are Bitter like Onions....OUCH!!!
ReplyDeleteSecondly...Keyser Sose? Really, it's come to that? I'm so disinterested now.
Let's get back to the matter at hand - we were all shocked that Adam was knocked off his pedestal and in the bottom 2. People figured he was the Sure Thing and didn't vote....we've seen this before. Adam will be safe next week.
Allison, pray that your stylist continues to improve and that your fans rally again. You have the cuteness of Kris to contend with as well as Gokey actually changing his song a bit (barely but enough to make people sit up) and Adam being well, Adam or rather the character that Adam chooses to be that week. As discussed earlier, the audience will be there for the theatrics like him or not. He's like Howard Stern in the beginning of his career...like him or loathe him, you tune in to hear/see what he will do next.
Jaime was a better mentor than Quentin but should have left it at just that....mentor, really getting up to sing that song live? Leave the synthesizer mic to Peter Frampton and Richie Sambora.
I'm confused about the line about no one liking Kanye? No one does? Really? apparently my standards are lower than I thought.
Peace
i've decided that TMC and PIC are like beanie babies....they were a fun fad until we realized that they are just small characters stuffed with beans
ReplyDeleteHow ironic to see that TMC has turned into an Adam-like obsession for certain readers of TMC. TMC admitted just last week that he/she was guilty of hating on Adam, then talking about him every post. Sound familar? Just admit you love it, whether or not you want to admit it. ;)
ReplyDelete-TMC
P.S.- The Usual Suspects reference was this week's clue...
A few final things:
ReplyDelete1) I was speaking of Kanye, not his music. If you like his music, I totally get it. If you like *him*, well, wow.
2) There's a difference between ruthless, mythical gangsters and guys who watch American Idol? Really? Are you sure? Good thing TMC never had much regard for the humor police. And based on the reaction(s) above, I'm pretty sure the "Bitter" is in just right place...even though both TMC and PIC looove onions. Especially caramelized onions.
TMC (and PIC) have always just been having a bit of fun. Now PIC is feeling a bit down after being attacked for her first ever post. If her mere association with TMC makes her opinion invalid, that's kinda sad. Especially since TMC has never attacked others' opinions...no matter how "colorful" his own might be.
-TMC
TMC - you are my Adam like obsession and I admit it! And PIC - keep on posting! I love reading what everyone has to say (even if I am generally guilty of not watching most of the show).
ReplyDeleteRAD is my favorite though - and I'm not just saying that cause I'm all sappy about RAD today. I mean it!
I do think the comments prove that the whole lot of us watch too many movies and TV shows LOL!
And where is Lorri?
damn it was a busy week...i'm just now catching up. plus i'm in RAD departure mourning and denial...
ReplyDeleteonly two things to say this week.
1. Yes, TMC, let's thank the stylists for allison's look this week. Over the season I've kept thinking that she looks like audrey in european vacation (dana hill), when they lose all their clothes and have to buy new ones in italy. each week has been like a part of that hideous fashion montage. finally, this week she didn't. the hair was SUCH an improvement (who knew that lowlights could work such magic) and she looked gorgeous. more please.
2. did paula really compare adam to michael phelps? what's that mean, he has a good stroke and smokes pot? i don't EVEN want to know.
